Danone in Kazakhstan

Being a truly global company represented in 120 countries of the world, Danone became interested in expanding its activity to Kazakhstan because of the stable development of the country and its bright prospects for the future.

Having weighed up all the pros and cons, Danone made a strategic decision to enter the Kazakhstani market and build its own plant that was put in operation in Bayserke village, Almaty oblast on June 1, 2010. The plant is managed by Danone Berkut LLP, a subsidiary of the French giant company.

Henceforth Danone products had been no longer imported from abroad, they have become domestic products and taken their place in the market.

More than 17 mln euros have been invested in the construction of the above-mentioned Danone plant. This resulted in creation of about 200 workplaces that could eventually turn to 300 workplaces. The plant’s output is 14 thousand tons of fermented dairy products per year.

The Danone plant observes the highest environmental standards: its production facilities use the latest ecologically advanced technologies for storage and processing of the raw materials; the plant has its own cleaning facilities, an independent boiler-house, a fire-extinguishing system, refrigeration equipment and much more.

Coming of such a grand company as Danone to Kazakhstan is, on the one hand, an important proof of the country’s achievements, and, on the other hand, a signal for the other global food producers to start their production in the local market. The local production now is a bridge to the markets of the Customs Union and Central Asian countries inhabited by more than 200 million people.

Construction of the Danone plant in Kazakhstan also means support of the local farmers, as the company continuously purchases raw materials which afterwards would be used to make high-quality products for the population.

By the end of 2012, the Danone plant in Almaty has been producing 42 varieties of dairy products of Activia, Rastishka, and Danone brands.

On May 2, 2013 the company has commissioned a new production line for traditional fermented milk products of Prostokvashino and Bio Balance brands at the Almaty plant.

By the end of 2013, the Danone plant has been producing 58 varieties of dairy products of Activia, Rastishka, Danone, Prostokvashino, and Bio Balance brands.
